With the bases loaded in the eighth inning, up a run against NC State, Carolina handed the baseball to Trent Thornton. Thornton is not totally new to a relief role; he was the Tar Heels’ closer a year ago, but after becoming the team’s Friday starter in 2014, he hadn’t made an appearance out of the bullpen all year long. But then, extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures.
