The dynamic of UNC facing its backyard rivals on back-to-back weeks is a recent occurrence. It never happened over a century for UNC to meet Duke and NC State in successive weeks until 1995. That year the Tar Heels beat Duke by four at home and then played State on a cold, rainy Black Friday in Raleigh, bolting in front and holding off a furious Wolfpack rally for a 30-28 win.
