Sylvia Hatchell recalls Dean Smith’s influence

Dean Smith is the reason UNC women’s basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell wound up literally sitting where he sat to think about ways his players both could put the ball in the hole and keep the other team’s five guys from doing so. He established a level of excellence that has permeated all sports at UNC, Hatchell said. “I wanted to do that in women’s basketball,” Hatchell said.
