More than a coach, Dean Smith lived life as a force for good

When games were at stake and the crowd noise was at its highest, Dean Smith would call a timeout and gather his University of North Carolina players around him. Instead of shouting to be heard over the din, he would lower his voice and speak quietly, forcing his players to lean closer to hear him. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
