UNC's Dean Smith set an NCAA record in his last game at Joel

It's funny what you remember. On this date 10 years ago, North Carolina beat Colorado 73-56 at Joel Coliseum, and Dean Smith broke the college record for coaching wins. Friends and relatives surrounded Smith as he finally reached his car in the private lot near the back door, some offering toasts, all gushing. The sun hit Smith in the face. He put on dark glasses, smiled and gripped the steering wheel.
