The recent passing of Carolina men’s basketball coach Dean Smith hit groundskeeper Lance Long hard. He had always admired Smith not just as a coach, but also as a man. Then, only a few days later, three Muslim students were slain in Chapel Hill, and he grieved for them, too, as he had for Student Body President Eve Carson when she was murdered in 2008.
