On Billy Donovan's college legacy, and the difficulty of staying at the top
Posted May 19, 2015
Eight years have passed since Billy Donovan accepted a five-year, $27.5-million offer to leave Florida and become the new head coach of the Orlando Magic. I was at his introductory press conference, held on the court of the Magic's former practice facility in Maitland, Fla., on June 1, 2007, but my memories of it seem like they're from an alternate reality, similar to having imagined a Tom Izzo-to-the-Cavaliers press conference from 2010, or a John Calipari-to-the-Cavs presser from 2014.
