On Jan. 2, Gene Chizik accepted an offer to be UNC’s defensive coordinator. Chizik, a former national championship-winning head coach at Auburn, is one of the sharpest defensive minds in college football. His hire was one of the most prominent in the nation this offseason. Adding Chizik to the football staff marks UNC’s longest step into big-time college football since the hiring of Butch Davis.
