The ACC Golf Championship in 1983 was staged in Rocky Mount. I approached UNC Golf Coach Devon Brouse about interviewing his No. 1 player, junior John Inman. Brouse strongly advised that I should also talk with his star freshman. I didn’t know this at the time, but Davis Love III had already won a collegiate golf tournament -- at MacGregor Downs no less.
