John Thompson an appropriate choice for first Dean Smith Award

Thompson was one of Smith's closest friends in coaching dating back to his days as a high school coach when Smith began recruiting one of his players....Thomspon was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. "You are hitting me in my soft spot," Thompson said in a press release from the USBWA. "There was no one in basketball I loved or respected more than Dean Smith. There was never anyone like him."
