The start of something big for Thompson at Arizona

When UNC freshman Deon Thompson learned Saturday that he would make his first career start, against No. 17 Arizona, his face split into a grin. He knew 15 members of his family had traveled from California to cheer him on, and "I wanted to play well in front of them." That he did, scoring a career-high 14 points in place of starter Brandan Wright, who was sidelined by a stomach ailment.
