Posted Apr 23, 2016
U2 opened its 1983 U.S tour in Chapel Hill on April 23. The rock band that would later reach legendary status performed as part of a UNICEF benefit show, "The Carolina Concert for Children." Those who attended recall being excited and curious about the young band from Ireland, the inclement weather that prompted Bono to perform "Singing in the Rain," and Bono climbing the stage's scaffolding and waving a white flag.
