While State coach Mark Gottfried prepared for the early departure of star point guard Cat Barber, Abdul-Malik Abu’s loss would be an unexpected blow difficult to overcome. His absence would further complicate a frontcourt rotation already clouded by chronic injuries to Lennard Freeman’s leg and the fact that BeeJay Anya still has his name in the draft.
