Roberts: Are coaches salaries out of control?

Bill Friday quoted the chairman of the UNC Board of Trustees who limply said the university must employ the best coach it can because "the marketplace is telling us what to do." To which Friday added: "So do the television networks and so does the contract with the shoe company.'' He continued: "The university was not created nor is it funded to be in the entertainment business. The public trust we hold is to teach, to engage in creative research and to serve the citizens of this state. Has our priority now changed to win at the highest price?''
