Ambitious football dreams costly

When UNC formally introduced Butch Davis on Monday as its new football coach, Davis tempered talk of winning with a plea for patience. "There is no magic formula," he said. Tom Reed of Cary, head coach at State from 1983-85, said developing programs should try to take steps instead of leaps. "There's nothing wrong with setting high goals, but you need to set goals that don't seem so far out there. You need goals that your players, your fans can taste, feel and smell what they're all about."
