Nobody knows for certain if Butch Davis will turn North Carolina into a consistent winner, but the odds are high it will happen. It’s not as if UNC football has rested in college football’s pits for the last century. Many people would be surprised to learn about Carolina’s solid tradition, especially from the period between when Bill Dooley became coach in the mid 1960s through the Mack Brown era, which concluded in 1997.
