New reign at UNC could benefit ACC

The timing for Butch Davis to take the North Carolina football coaching job is promising for the school and the ACC. Both parties are in desperate need of hope and new energy. Davis is arriving at a battered program at the same time an important part of the ACC's framework is in a similar state of disrepair. Florida State, long the league linchpin, virtually has fallen off the college football map and is a long shot to stage a fast recovery.
