Butch Davis is at top of Tar Heels' chart

Sources in Chapel Hill said that school officials, led by Athletics Director Dick Baddour, are talking seriously with Butch Davis about the job. The sources said they didn't know if a formal contract has been offered or how long the negotiations will last, only that the talks have progressed. Baddour declined to say whether he would wait until the end of the Tar Heels' season to announce the identity of the next coach if he had already made the hire. (Winston-Salem Journal)
