The fourth quarter melee that was touched off when North Carolina linebacker Durell Mapp hit Irish quarterback Brady Quinn just out of bounds on the Notre Dame sideline early in the fourth quarter, following a scramble by Quinn, ended with two personal foul penalties being assessed on the Tar Heels. "To me," Mapp said, "it was a terrible call," adding he believed Quinn got extra protection because he is a Heisman Trophy candidate.
