The Tar Heels played inspired football in light of the pending departure of coach John Bunting. The Tar Heels took over on their own 20-yard line with four minutes to go and down a touchdown. North Carolina's offense sputtered, then drove as deep as the Wake Forest 3-yard line with under a minute remaining. But on first down, Dailey slipped on an option play, losing three yards.
