Heels coach Roy Williams speaks out — and up — over HB2

I worked for a short while as a sportswriter. That job required a few brief conversations with Dean Smith, a man unafraid to speak his mind. Smith spoke in favor of civil rights, against the death penalty, in support of prisoners and, yes, favored equal treatment of gay and lesbian citizens. Dean Smith, no doubt, would be proud of his protégé, Roy Williams, for speaking his mind. (Winston-Salem Journal)
