Five decades of striving for progress at UNC

When Preston Dobbins arrived in Chapel Hill in 1967, he was adamant about stepping away from civil rights activism. The plan lasted a month. By the end of the fall semester, Dobbins found himself establishing the Black Student Movement — an organization that has played a role in nearly every significant advancement for minorities at North Carolina.
