South Carolina-Marquette matchup rekindles memories of super '70s series with Al and Frank McGuire

Having left the ACC and needing games to fill his schedule, Gamecocks head coach Frank McGuire called on a protege: Marquette’s Al McGuire, who though unrelated had played under Frank at St. John’s. Over the next decade, the teams would play 12 times. Most of the time, the games were close. And most of the time Marquette won, even after Al McGuire retired in 1977.
