WXYC celebrates 40 years of airtime

It was Friday, March 18, 1977. Jimmy Carter was president, and the top hit on the radio was Barbra Streisand’s “Evergreen.” the theme song from the 1976 film “A Star is Born.” But that’s not what came out of the WXYC soundwaves. From the Frank Porter Graham Student Union, the speakers started to play “You Turn Me On, I’m a Radio” by Joni Mitchell. (Daily Tar Heel)
