The turning point in ’s journey came in middle school when he decided to concentrate on basketball. He told his parents that he wanted to play basketball at North Carolina. His mother loved the Tar Heels and predicted that she would someday watch her oldest son play in Carolina blue. “When Joel said he wanted to go to North Carolina, we said, ‘OK, let’s work this backwards.’” (The Undefeated)
