North Carolina’s defense needs to step up in 2017

The pieces are there for UNC to have one of its better years on defense. While John Papuchis replaces Gene Chizik at defensive coordinator and three of the four coaches on the defensive staff are new, seven starters are back on what will be a veteran unit. Only six teams on UNC’s schedule featured 2016 offenses that finished top 50 in the FBS in yards per play.
