The letter, now 34 years old, hangs in the Carolina Basketball Museum. There are typos and handwritten notes, and Dean Smith didn’t sign it—all indications that this might be a rough draft. “Michael, if you do improve on these items we mentioned, you will be a better basketball player, and, consequently, our team should be better and have a chance to win it all in Seattle next year.”
