Shock factor, not dollar value, moved NCAA in ruling against Louisville

It was there the whole time, the jolting, stunning nature of the actual violations that occurred. Over the past 22 months, many of the people following the Louisville basketball scandal — particularly fans and media — seemingly forgot that. All that mattered was that seven Committee on Infractions panelists simply couldn't get past the shocking bottom line:
