20 years ago today, on October 9, 1997, legendary North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith retired from coaching as the NCAA Division I all-time winningest men's basketball coach (879 wins). Smith spent 36 seasons at the helm of UNC's basketball program, and his coaching tenure ended with this press conference.
