Carolina coach Ron Rivera awarded Julius Peppers the game ball in that humid visitors’ locker room, and that meant that, per custom, he would have to give a speech. And that’s a problem. “I get bashful in the spotlight,” says Peppers. “Even at home or at a birthday party, I hate that stuff. I don’t want no surprise birthday parties—everybody who knows me well knows [that].”
