The first-round pick with the blazing fastball, unhittable breaking pitches, and the changeup that fell off the table was going to lead the Mets into a new era of contention. Now, entering 2018, he’s not pitching for accolades; he’s pitching for his life. His struggles began in 2016, when his ERA ballooned to 4.86.
