McGill sets sight on 1,000 yards

The legacy of 1,000-yard backs used to be a drawing card for UNC. As recent as five years ago, the Tar Heels had more players to crack that magical barrier than even Southern Cal, which earned the nickname “Tailback U.’’ for its string of great backs in the 1970s and 80s. But a drought that has covered eight seasons without a 1,000-yard rusher has seen UNC, with 24 overall, slip behind Nebraska (26, including two quarterbacks) and Southern Cal (25) in that category.
