The late Frank McGuire once told me “In a coach’s life, you’ve got to be good and you’ve got to be lucky.” The head coach was giving perspective on UNC’s 32-0 championship season of 1957. McGuire, of course, was Irish, and Irish are supposed to be lucky. But Saturday in South Bend, UNC got all the luck. How else to describe T.J. Gibbs’ dramatic final attempts at victory?
