Tar Heels Today: Clemson preview, football recruiting note, and the end of small ball?
Posted Jan 30, 2018
UNC basketball in the AP and RPI rankings, previewing Clemson, Brice Johnson on the move, the end of "small ball"?! and a football recruiting nugget in Tar Heels Today.
Monday's News & Notes:
UNC fell to No. 19 in Monday's AP Top 25 college basketball poll. Despite the two-game losing streak, the Tar Heels are still ranked No. 11 in the RPI and have played the 3rd toughest schedule in the country.
Carolina will visit No. 20 Clemson tonight (pre-game notes), and it seems Roy Williams may consider going to his traditional bigger starting lineup. Speaking of bigger lineups, freshman forward Garrison Brooks won UNC's defensive player of the game against NC State.
And while UNC travels to the Palmetto State, South Carolina native Brice Johnson was traded Monday from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Detroit Pistons as part of the Blake Griffin trade where he'll team up with fellow Tar Heel Reggie Bullock.
On the football recruiting front, UNC's pursuit of Shelby linebacker Dax Hollifield is looking good. Larry Fedora also recently extended to Dax's brother Jack Hollifield his first scholarship offer and true to form, NC State followed with an offer later that day.
Happy Birthday to former UNC QB Mark Maye, also known as Luke's father:
