Tar Heels fail in bid for baseball national championship

Oregon State, which lost its first game in the College World Series by 10 runs, beat North Carolina 3-2 Monday for the NCAA baseball championship at Rosenblatt Stadium. The Beavers (50-16) won six of seven games following their 11-1 loss to Miami on June 17. The Tar Heels (54-15) squandered late-inning chances to go ahead and Oregon State's winning run scored on a throwing error by second baseman Bryan Steed. (Charlotte Observer)
