Ol' boy swingin' for Heels

Posted Jun 23, 2006

North Carolina baseball coach Mike Fox calls Jay Cox a "throwback." Most of the Tar Heels just call him "Moon Pie." "We kid Jay a lot about working way too hard at his country-boy image," said pitcher Daniel Bard, a big-city dude from Charlotte. "Some of it's put-on, you know." Some maybe, but not all. Cox, the Tar Heels' slugging left fielder, is from Johnston County and dadgum proud of it. (Raleigh News & Observer)
