No matter where she finishes in Boston, Shalane Flanagan has changed running for American women

Shalane Flanagan had dreamed of winning a major marathon since she was a girl. I remember first hearing about Flanagan when she was a running prodigy at Marblehead High School. She became a dominating collegiate runner for UNC. But after she won back-to-back NCAA cross-country titles in 2002 and 2003, her father reminded her of the huge challenge ahead.
