Marion Jones wins N.Y. 100 to raucous cheers

faced less than perfect conditions in her first race on American soil in more than a year. It was chilly and breezy. The track was wet after substantial rain nearly turned the event into a swim meet. There was no place to warm up properly. Above all, a tough world-class field awaited in her first true test since coming off an 11-month layoff. Jones got into the blocks to raucous cheers, stayed composed during a false start, and easily schooled her younger competitors to win the 100 meters in 11.06 seconds at the Reebok Grand Prix on Saturday.
