CH Regional notebook: Friendly rivalry

Winthrop's Chris Carrara joked beforehand that Daniel Bard would brush him back with the first pitch. He was close. Actually, Bard hit him with the fifth pitch. A beanball war in the making? Not quite. Just two former high school teammates getting to face each other for the first time. Bard and Carrara played together at Charlotte Christian, helping their team win state titles in 2002 and '03.
