Former Tar Heel linebacker and coach Tommy Thigpen joined the UNC Football staff under Larry Fedora in January as an assistant coach who works with the safeties. He was a four-year letter winner at UNC under Mack Brown and earned All-ACC accolades three times—first team in 1991. "I have always wanted to come back to North Carolina ever since I left."
