Tar Heels Set Record Graduation Success Rate

Graduation Success Rates for UNC student-athletes over the past four years are the highest on record, climbing three points to 91 percent, the third straight year the Tar Heels equaled or established their highest multi-year graduation rate. In addition, the single-year GSR was 93 percent, an increase of five points, tying UNC's highest in the last decade. (GoHeels.com)

Born & Bred: The Next 50 Years

In 1997, 26 years after the first seven women’s athletics programs – basketball, field hockey, volleyball, fencing, swimming & diving, tennis and gymnastics – began play at UNC, Dean Smith was asked about Carolina being a "basketball school" or "football school." Smith remarked, "North Carolina is a women’s soccer school, we’re just trying to keep up." (Rams Club)

UNC Fifth In Director's Cup Standings Following Conclusion Of Winter Sports

UNC has climbed to fifth place nationally in the Learfield Directors' Cup standings, which include winter sports results. The Directors' Cup awards points based on NCAA postseason success. Each school may accumulate points towards the Cup standings in 19 sports, four of which must be baseball, men's and women's basketball, and volleyball. (GoHeels.com)

A Family Legacy For UNC Gymnastics Star Elizabeth Culton

Durham native Elizabeth Culton was honored as a first-team All-America in 2021 and was the first Tar Heel to earn first-team honors since 2005. The honor had special significance, considering her grandfather, Bill Cobey, was an assistant athletics director when UNC established its first seven varsity women's sports, including gymnastics, in 1971-72. Tar Heels in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (August 6 Update)

The USA baseball team beat South Korea to advance to gold medal match against Japan. Ryder Ryan has been phenomenal in relief, pitching four innings, surrendering one hit, no runs, and no walks while striking out four. Ryan also picked up the semifinal win against South Korea. Ryan and Tim Federowicz are guaranteed at least a silver medal. (All Tar Heels)

Tar Heels in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics (August 4 Update)

11 of the 12 Tar Heels in Tokyo have begun competition. Only Camilla Feeley (Rhythmic Gymnastics) has not. Tobin Heath and Crystal Dunn will play against Australia for the women's soccer bronze medal. The US baseball team lost to Japan in the winner's bracket. They then defeated Dominican Republic and are one win away from the gold medal game. (All Tar Heels)
