UNC starts sports year unbeaten in 16 events over seven sports, with five ranked teams

No Tar Heels team has lost since college sports resumed in August. UNC is undefeated in 16 events over seven sports, with five teams ranked. After a football win, two field hockey wins, two volleyball wins and a women’s soccer win over the weekend, UNC is 14–0–1. UNC Volleyball Caps Off Undefeated Weekend With Sweep Of Western Carolina

The UNC volleyball team capped off a 3-0 weekend with a sweep of Western Carolina (25-13, 25-17, 25-10) on Sunday in Carmichael Arena (Highlights). All three of the Tar Heels' victories have been in straight sets. The Tar Heels were led Mabrey Shaffmaster who matched her career-best with five aces. UNC Volleyball Sweeps Cleveland State In Season-Opening Matchup

UNC Volleyball swept its way to its first victory of the 2024 season on Friday at Carmichael Arena, downing Cleveland State in straight sets (25-12, 25-17, 25-17) (Highlights). Senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster opened her senior season with a bang, tallying a match-best 15 kills on a .519 clip, the second-highest hitting percentage in her career. (GoHeels.com)

A sizable contingent of current and former Tar Heel standouts is headed to Paris for the Summer Olympics, which begin July 24. Former NCAA champions and Meredith Sholder will take the field with Team USA in field hockey. Sean Taylor's daughter, Jackie Taylor, honors her dad at UNC

Jackie Taylor is former NFL safety Sean Taylor’s only child and was just 18 months old when she lost her father. In 2023, Jackie committed to UNC on a volleyball scholarship and will be a freshman this fall. On Thursday, the Tar Heels revealed Jackie’s number: 21, the same as her late father. She also continues to honor him with the Sean Taylor Legacy Project. (USA Today)

UNC either beat, tied, or split the series with Duke in the following: Field Hockey: UNC won 2-1. Volleyball: UNC won the series in five sets (3-2). Men’s Soccer: UNC won 2-1. Women’s Soccer: Tie. Carmichael Arena Lobby Dedicated In Dr. Beth Miller's Honor

Dr. Beth Miller spent more than 40 years working as part of the UNC Department of Athletics, and during that time she was part of thousands of gatherings in Carmichael Arena, whether cheering at games, coaching at practices, or mentoring student-athletes. UNC Student-Athletes Set Graduation Success Rates Record

For the fourth straight year UNC student-athletes set a school-record for multi-year graduation rates and set the mark for highest single-year rate as reported in the NCAA's annual Graduation Success Rates. Tar Heels student-athlete GSRs for the incoming classes of 2013-14 through 2016-17 were a record 92%. The single-year rate was also a record 94%. (GoHeels.com)

The UNC volleyball team ended the 2023 season in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon, downing Duke in five sets in Carmichael Arena (Highlights). Junior outside Mabrey Shaffmaster led the match with her second 25-kill performance in a row to go with nine digs and a pair of blocks and aces. Graduate outside hitter Emani' Foster had 18 kills.
