In 2004, Blythe returned home to observe and participate in what he calls "the greatest rivalry in college athletics" and to explore "the roots of my obsession." The schools are 8 miles apart but a universe away in Blythe's view: UNC is public, populist, modestly homegrown; Duke is private, elitist, filled with rootless out-of-staters.
