The 1929 North Carolina football team was nicknamed “Team of a Million Backs” referring to the numerous running backs that shuttled in and out of the lineup for the 9-1 Southern Conference champs. The Tar Heel defense pitched four shutouts, and nobody scored more than 19 points against UNC. On offense, Carolina scored 40-plus points five times. (Tar Heel Illustrated)
