Former Tar Heel point guard Kenny Smith was National Player of the Year (Basketball Times, The Sporting News) in 1987, first-team All-American, a three-time All-ACC selection, Patterson Medal recipient, and his UNC jersey is honored at the Smith Center. Smith is second all-time at UNC with 738 career assists and averaged 6.1 assists per game.
