"Sam Perkins was the best player my freshman year," Kenny Smith said when asked about who was the standout on the 1983/84 UNC team. "Sam was the best player, Michael was the most dynamic." Two years after his iconic game-winner against Georgetown to lead the Tar Heels to the national championship, Michael Jordan was still raw.
