Tar Heels prove tournament committee wrong, roll by Irish for 31st Women’s College Cup


North Carolina was surprised when the NCAA women’s soccer selection committee gave No. 4-ranked Notre Dame a No. 1 seed and the No. 2-ranked Tar Heels a No. 2 seed. That meant their quarterfinals meeting was in South Bend. But UNC proved the seeding was flawed Saturday by ousting the Irish 2-0 (Highlights) in the NCAA tournament quarterfinals.
