Wednesday was national signing day. Today also is important. Today is Sign Day. The Panthers have two weeks, starting today, to apply the franchise tag to Peppers. If they pay their star defensive end $16.683 million, they retain him for one more season. He won't be a Panther when the season begins, of course. They'll trade him. (Charlotte Observer)
