Football can be cruel in its precision. A week ago, North Carolina was a yard short at Cal. This week, an inch short of knocking off No. 16 Virginia. Two games decided by the width of a football, both telling the same story: progress wrapped in heartbreak. Still, this one felt different. You could feel the offense finding itself, even as the final score said otherwise.
