With Thursday's announcement that Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington will forfeit their final year of college eligibility to enter the NBA Draft, the Heels' lineup again has been gutted. Deon Thompson will be the lone returning starter. But when you evaluate the team's likely 2009-10 core -- Thompson, Ginyard, Ed Davis, Tyler Zeller, Larry Drew II and a flock of incoming players -- the foundation for the next national contender already is in place.
